Daughter finds mom dead in murder-suicide attempt in SW Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman was found dead by one of her daughters in an apparent murder suicide at a home in southwest Houston Sunday morning, according to Houston police.

Police said one of the woman’s daughters called HPD to the home on Wuthering Heights Drive when she found her mother’s body with what appeared to be cuts to her throat.

When officers arrived, they also found a man in the backyard with cuts that they believe were self-inflicted. Investigators said they think he was the woman’s husband.

The man still had a knife in his hand when they arrived, police said. He was taken to the hospital to undergo surgery and is expected to survive.

“They located the husband, who is going to be the suspect, in the backyard,” said Sgt. Adrian Lopez. “They gave him multiple verbal commands to drop the knife. He refused.”

Two children, ages 10 and 17, were at the home at the time of the incident, police said.

“Obviously very traumatic for the two daughters at such a young age,” said Lopez. “They’re hanging in there. They were able to give me very vital statements that are going to be very important to this investigation.”

Homicide investigators were working to obtain a search warrant to enter the home to learn more details of what exactly happened.

Police said the man, who is in his late 40s or early 50s, could be facing a murder charge.

“You can’t tell them, ‘Don’t be sad,’ because they’re going to be sad until they can do better,” said Charles Hurd, a neighbor. “I just let them know, ‘If you need any help or anything, come knock on the door.'”

A third daughter was not home at the time of the incident but said other family members and friends were helping the family as the investigation continues.

Last year, officers were called to the house for some type of disturbance, according to investigators.
